Graeter’s Since 1870

In 1989, Lou’s sons, Bob and Chip, and Dick’s son, Richard, also
joined the business, becoming the fourth generation of the Graeter
family to make ice cream. Together they operate the business at the
same Reading Road location their great-grandmother Regina bought
in 1934.

In 2004, the fourth generation of the Graeter family took ownership of
the then 134 year-old ice cream company. While only 3% of family
businesses survive to the fourth generation of family ownership, Chip,
Bob, and Richard fully intend to pass on Cincinnati’s historic and
beloved ice cream company to Louis Graeter’s great-great grandchildren,
who will be taught to make French Pot ice cream just the way he
did, two gallons at a time.
